    The inaugural SaiPadma Memorial Lecture honors the enduring legacy of SaiPadma, whose friendship, camaraderie and tireless work for accessibility and disability rights deeply inspired Dr. Chennapragada and contributed to the founding of Adapted Sports India Foundation in 2021. Delivered by her husband, Pragnanand, the lecture reflects on how SaiPadma’s relentless pursuit of accessibility, dignity and equal participation continues to shape the disability rights movement in India. It is both a remembrance of her remarkable contribution and a reflection on the responsibility of carrying her vision forward.

    A legacy remembered. A movement continued. A more accessible India imagined.

    Architect's Panel: Building to Include: Beyond Ramps and Braille Boards

    Accessibility is often approached as a set of individual interventions. This conversation takes a systems-thinking approach, examining how architecture, product design, heritage and urban environments interact to shape participation. Bringing together perspectives from conservation and heritage architecture, product design and urban architecture, the panel asks how we can move from adding accessibility to existing systems towards designing environments in which access, independence and participation are embedded from the beginning.

    Behind many journeys towards inclusion is a mother who refused to accept that a barrier was simply the way things had to be. This conversation brings together women who have advocated, challenged institutions and created pathways for their children and wider communities across sport, education and disability.

    Through a systems-thinking lens, the panel explores how mothers have often been the quiet architects of change—turning individual struggles into questions of access, challenging institutions to rethink what is possible, and building networks that make participation easier for those who follow.

    This is a conversation about maternal advocacy as a force for systemic change, and about recognising mothers not merely as caregivers, but as powerful stakeholders shaping India’s inclusion movement.

    The Right to Create: Rethinking Photography, Accessibility and Participation

    Drawing from the experience of teaching photography to blind children at Devnar School, this presentation explores how participation can challenge conventional ideas about photography, perception and creativity. It examines inclusive learning environments through the principles of Universal Design, inclusive education and creative agency,and asks what becomes possible when persons with disabilities are recognised not merely as participants, but as creators shaping how we understand and design the world.
