A National Photography Contest on Disability Rights
A Nation's Story, Told in Six Frames
Every city, town and village tells a story about disability. Some stories are visible through ramps, schools, parks, sports grounds and transport systems. Others are hidden in attitudes, relationships, traditions, memories and everyday life. The Five Elements Photo Story Award invites photographers across India to explore disability rights through the ancient framework of the Five Elements — Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space (Ether).
Rather than documenting disability as an individual experience, participants are encouraged to examine how their communities either enable or restrict participation, dignity, accessibility and belonging. This is not a competition about disability as tragedy or inspiration. It is about rights, inclusion, participation and the lived experience of place.

About the award
One cohesive visual essay, not six unrelated photographs. Every frame should earn its place in the sequence.
How a street, a school, a clinic or a stadium treats disabled people is already a story. Your camera reads it.
The strongest entries move like an edited photo feature — an opening, a build, and a closing frame that lands.
A total prize purse of ₹25,000 will be awarded to the three best photo stories. The winners will also be exhibited at the Adapted Sports India Conclave in Hyderabad.

Sanitation, healthcare, rivers, community care, public resources.

Submission Checklist for You
Every entry must include all five of the following.
- Six JPEG photographs
- Story statement — maximum 300 words
- Six individual captions — maximum 50 words each
- Photographer biography — maximum 100 words
- Declaration of originality

Sudharak OlweDocumentary photographer · Padma Shri
Sudharak Olwe is a distinguished documentary photographer and Padma Shri awardee whose work has documented the lives, struggles and resilience of marginalised communities across India for over thirty years. A recipient of the National Geographic All Roads Photography Award, his photography has been widely exhibited internationally and is celebrated for its compelling human-centred storytelling. Through his practice, Olwe has consistently demonstrated the power of visual journalism to advance dignity, inclusion and social justice.
Samar Singh JodhaTransdisciplinary artist, photographer and TED speaker
Samar Singh Jodha is a transdisciplinary artist, photographer and TED speaker, with a 35 year practice across South Asia, the Middle East and East Africa. Major works include Bhopal: A Silent Picture (350,000+ visitors) and Outpost (55th Venice Biennale). His work has been commissioned by organizations including the United Nations, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the BBC World Service Trust. He has served as judge and mentor on Nat Geo Cover Shot, National Geographic Channel. He is founder of Red Balloon Global, a creative youth organization using art and storytelling as tools for social change.
